OPENING SPEECH BY AMB. EMMANUEL NELSON USMAN, CHAIRMAN OF ABIS GROUP, AT THE NATIONAL LIVESTOCK TRANSFORMATION DIALOGUE AND OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE ABIS LIVESTOCK ACADEMY.

Your Excellencies, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development, the National Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Programme, our esteemed development partners and representatives of various agencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen.

On behalf of the Board and Management of ABIS Group, it is my great honour and privilege to welcome you to the National Livestock Transformation Dialogue and the Official Launch of the ABIS Livestock Academy.
Today’s occasion is more than a formal gathering. It is a defining moment in Nigeria’s livestock journey, a moment that brings together policymakers, regulators, investors, development partners, and technical experts to deliberate on how best to unlock the full potential of our livestock sector and place Nigeria on a path of resilience, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
ABIS Group is a Nigerian integrated agro-allied entity committed to transforming the livestock value chain. Our operations demonstrate the power of vision backed by execution. In Lagos, our processing plant handles 220 cattle and 3,000 poultry daily, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality protein to Nigerian households. In Abuja, our MEGA Livestock Processing Facility, currently under development, is designed to process 1,000 cattle and between 400 to 600 tons of poultry per day, positioning it as one of the largest of its kind in Africa. Beyond this, we are advancing additional projects across other states, further expanding our footprint and strengthening Nigeria’s livestock production ecosystem.
Together, these facilities are projected to create over 36,000 jobs, significantly enhance Nigeria’s food security, boost our export competitiveness, and promote sustainability through innovative waste-to-biogas practices that ensure environmental responsibility.
Yet, beyond physical infrastructure, we recognize that human capacity is the engine of transformation. This is why today we are also unveiling the ABIS Livestock Academy, a national platform dedicated to technical training, certification, and institutional knowledge transfer in the livestock value chain. The Academy will equip young Nigerians, extension workers, and industry professionals with the skills required for primary production, processing, market development, research, and sustainability.
This Dialogue and the Academy together embody ABIS Group’s belief that Nigeria’s livestock sector can be transformed into a world-class, sustainable industry if we harness innovation, collaboration, and capacity building.
We owe a debt of sincere gratitude to our partners, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), and Alternative Bank whose steadfast support and collaboration continue to strengthen our efforts and amplify our impact.
We also extend our appreciation to our development partners, technical collaborators, industry stakeholders, and academic institutions whose contributions in knowledge sharing, investment, and innovation are helping to shape a stronger livestock ecosystem for Nigeria.
Their collective partnership is a testament to what can be achieved when the public sector, private sector, and development agencies work hand in hand for national development.
We are deeply grateful to our distinguished guests and partners who have honoured this invitation despite their busy schedules. Your presence today is a clear demonstration of your commitment to agricultural transformation and to Nigeria’s future.
As we begin today’s proceedings, I urge us all to engage openly, deliberate constructively, and commit to actionable outcomes that will shape the future of Nigeria’s livestock ecosystem for generations to come.
Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
