The 4th day of NAFEST2024 featured a thrilling display of Dambe, the ancient martial art of the Hausa people. Rooted in tradition, Dambe is not just a combat sport—it’s a cultural emblem of bravery, strength, and community.
Fighters, known as Dan Madami, entered the ring armed with their “spear hand” wrapped in tightly knotted cloth, ready to strike, and their “shield hand” poised for defense. Each calculated move a story of ancestral honor, as the intense three-round battles brought spectators to the edge of their seats.
Dambe’s significance goes beyond the match—it unites communities, celebrates heritage, and pays homage to the warriors of old.
Special thanks to the fighters for showcasing the agility and strength of Northern Nigeria’s rich culture and to the DG, NCAC, for incorporating this historical activity in NAFEST2024.
