H.E. Amb. Dr. Mubarak A. Tijjani’s visit to the 10MW Tiga Hydropower Plant Station in Kano State marks a significant milestone in unlocking Nigeria’s renewable energy potential. The plant, which was completed in January 2023, has a generating and transmission capacity of 33 kV and will provide power to the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, ensuring clean drinking water for the Kano population and reducing water-borne diseases.

The project is indeed a game-changer, not only boosting energy supply but also promoting sustainability, reducing carbon footprint, and creating jobs. The planned expansion of an additional 50MW of solar energy will further drive Nigeria’s transition to clean energy and secure a brighter future for generations to come.

It’s worth noting that Nigeria has been making strides in renewable energy, with projects like the 10MW Kano Solar Project, This project, located in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, is the largest utility-scale solar farm in Nigeria and is expected to generate and supply cleaner power to the nearby Challawa Industrial cluster and citizens of Kano State.
