STATEMENT BY H.E. MUBARAK AHMAD TIJJANI ON THE TRAGIC MOB VIOLENCE IN UROMI, EDO STATE

With profound sadness, I strongly condemn the gruesome and unjust mob violence that led to the tragic killing of innocent travelers in Uromi, Edo State. This horrific act of lawlessness, brutality, and disregard for human life is a stain on our collective conscience and a grave violation of the fundamental principles of justice, human rights, and the rule of law.
No society can thrive where violence replaces justice and mob rule overshadows due process. The prevalence of such attacks is a clear sign of a failing system that must be urgently addressed. It is the responsibility of the government and security agencies to ensure that such barbaric acts do not go unpunished. Those responsible must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted without delay.
Beyond condemnation, this tragedy calls for urgent and strategic action.
The Nigerian government must strengthen law enforcement mechanisms, improve security infrastructure, and enforce stricter measures to curb vigilante justice and extrajudicial killings. We must promote a society where justice is served through the courts, not through bloodshed in the streets.
To the grieving families, I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences. May you find the strength to bear this immense loss, and may the memories of your loved ones be a source of comfort and resilience.
H.E. Mubarak Ahmad Tijjani
