THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN ABAJI AREA COUNCIL HONOURABLE ABUBAKAR UMAR ABDULLAHI MOVES TO STRENGTHEN OPENNESS TO JOIN OPEN GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP (OGP).

The inaugurated steering committee on open government partnership by the Executive Chairman Abaji Area Council Honourable Abubakar Umar Abdullahi has today Friday paid a courtesy visit to Open Government Partnership Secretariat Abuja.
In a keynote address by the National Coordinator of Open Government Partnership (OGP), Dr Gloria Ahmed explained that OGP is an international initiative meant to promote transparency, accountability, citizens’ participation and technology and innovation in governance. It serves as a platform for reformed within and outside governments worldwide to develop initiatives that enhance transparency, empower citizens, and utilize new technologies to improve governance. It also secure concrete commitments from national and sub-national governments to promote open government reform and innovation, advancing transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement.
Furthermore, she reaffirms that, It is a voluntary partnership that any of the interested states or local government can join, so as to allowed civil society organizations to collaborate with governments on initiatives that aligned with their reform agendas.
Abaji Area Council is the 5th local government to signed in to the OGP out of the 774 local government in Nigeria. She concluded.
Speaking at the gathering, The Council Secretary Abaji Area Council Honourable Agaba Abaji Agumoguo who double as the leader (focal person) of the OGP steering committee Disclosed that OGP initiative was in consonance with the restoration agenda of the Executive Chairman Abaji Area Council.
The Honourable Chairman has demonstrated his administration commitment to open governance, transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement with the inauguration of the steering committee of Open Government Partnership (OGP).
Each Members of the steering committee, according to the focal person, were selected from civil society organizations, professional bodies, youth parliaments, public service, and other interest groups in order to ensure more commitment from government to promote open governance, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technology to strengthen governance in Abaji Area Council.
He further explained that AUA administration has always prioritised inclusion of the needs and aspirations of Abaji township and rural areas adding that the OGP initiative would increase collaboration between government and other stakeholders to improve the standard of living of the people.
The H.O.D Admin AAC, Mr Sumaila Ajoze Shaibu affirmed that, for AAC to pick interest in joining the OGP, the Executive Chairman Abaji Area Council is already embracing its principles wholeheartedly.
Finally, The steering committee Onbehalf of Abaji Area Council graciously present the membership application to the management of Open Government Partnership .
