On behalf of the good people of Abaji Area Council, and with a heart full of joy and immense gratitude, I heartily welcome the Honourable Minister and Honourable Minister of State FCTA, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CFR and Her Excellency Dr (Mrs) Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure to Abaji Town for the official commissioning of Naharati – Abaji Metropole Road Project for use.
Less than a year ago, His Excellency was here to flag-off the construction and asphalting of this particular road project as one of the many people-oriented projects “the Peoples Leader” was embarking upon across the Six FCT Area Councils. True to His Excellency’s words, today the project has become a reality: “Promise Made, Promise Fulfilled.”

The completion of this 5.0km road project is highly significant, because the settlement of Naharati has been linked directly to Abaji Town for the first time. Furthermore, the road would also serve as a diversion/detour in the event of sudden blockage of the main bridge on the Abaji – Lokoja Federal Highway, which emphasises the strategic nature of the project. We say thank you to His Excellency, Sir. We are equally grateful to the Honourable Minister of State for being a pillar of support to His Excellency in carrying out this important project. The impacts of this monumental project on the socio-economic lives of our people cannot be emphasised.

To say that both of you love the Council beyond any imagination is an understatement. His Excellency show of passion and zeal to ensure the completion and opening of the FCT University of Science & Technology located in the Council is a clear indicator of this.

In addition, His Excellency also recently approved the establishment of two new Police Divisions in Abaji Area Council: one each in Yaba and Gawu, to combat security challenges facing the Council. This project is currently ongoing, even as I speak.

Your Excellency, Sir, you are a true and inspiring leader indeed. For young aspiring persons like us, who have just began their public service career, we hold you in very high esteem, as a real model worthy of emulating.

In the words of John C. Maxwell: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Sir, we have been striving to replicate your leadership model in the Council, in our own little ways, through the provision of key projects, which have direct positive bearings on the lives of our people. For instance, we have recently completed the construction of an 80-Bed Capacity Hospital in Abaji Town, which its furnishing is also on the verge of completion, to cater for the health needs of residents and beyond. I would like to crave the indulgence of His Excellency to grant us the honour of personally commissioning the project as soon as the furnishing is completed.

In the same vein, we are currently building a 750 Capacity Ultra-Modern ICT Centre in Abaji Town as part of a deliberate effort to invest on human capital development for the long term benefits of the Council.
Still on the welfare of residents, which is one of the primary business of government, the Council in partnership with FCT-NDE is currently training 300 residents in various vocations, skills and trades at the FCT NDE Training Centre in Bwari Area Council, under the empowerment scheme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s Renewed Hope Agenda. In addition, in partnership with the Department of Science, Technology & Innovation (DSTI) of the Education Secretariat of FCTA, the Council most recently completed a four-week empowerment training program for 55 youths and farmers on macro-propagation of banana and plantain under the theme: “Ensuring Food Security for Sustainable Development”.
Sir, the 55 graduates of the program were each to be provided with N100,000 take-off grant by the Council to start their respective banana and plantain farms.

Your Excellency Sir, we are proud to identify ourselves with a visionary and legendary leaders like both of you, and shall continue to do so without hesitation.
According to Joe DiMaggio, former New York Yankees Outfielder & Hall of Fame Baseball Player: “A person always doing his or her best becomes a natural leader, just by example.”
As His Excellency commission this important project today, it is our solemn prayer that God Almighty continue to protect, preserve and promote you both in service to the people of FCT, Nigeria and humanity at large.
